PHYTOTOXICITY AND ANAEROBIC SLUDGE CO-DIGESTIONINHIBITION OF COCONUT HUSK COCOS NUCIFERA (L.)(PALMAE)LEACHATE: PHOTO-OXIDATIVE REMEDIATIONPRAVEEN KRISHNAKUMAR, NEETHU C.B., SRUTHI P. AND Y. SHIBU VARDHANANAbstract Environmental pollution due to the release of natural polyphenolic compounds from agro industrial operations has become globally wide spread. Disposal of tender coconut husk or related materials is one of the major issues in the current scenario. Present study aimed to demonstrate the biodegradability of coconut husk leachate using different conditions. The extraction dynamics were calculated by evaluating the polyphenol content, free radical scavenging activity and reducing power of the samples. The results exposed the profound inhibitory effect of polyphenolon biogas production by negatively regulating the growth of methanogenic bacteria. Decreased polyphenolic content by artificial UV and Anaerobic sun exposure enhanced the biogas production whereas aerobic sun exposure maintained high level of phenolic content and thereby decreasing the biogas production.
