PRIYANKA TIWARI

Abstract

In recent years, environmental issues regarding global climate change, groundwater contamination and removal of pollutants have become significant for proper environmental management. In the management of water resources, both quality and quantity of water is important. Environmental pollution by coal based power plants all over the world is cited to be one of the major sources of pollution. The area under study is surrounded by thermal power plant. Therefore, there exists ademand to understand the extent of pollution in the study area. In order to assess, the ground water quality for drinking and irrigation purpose in Tamnar area, Raigarh District,India samples were collected and analyzed for various hydro-geochemical properties; pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+. Results of this study showed that most of the analysed groundwater samples posed no threat to human consumption and irrigation, since the concentration of physico-chemical parameters were within WHO standards.
