RADIO FREQUENCY EMF EXPOSURE DUE TO MOBILE TOWER BASE STATIONS: MEASUREMENTS AND ANALYSIS IN DELHI NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION, INDIA

NEHA SINGH, ANUJ RANJAN AND TANU JINDAL

Abstract

Continuous success of tele-communication technology during last decade accounts hundreds to billions of mobile users worldwide. The technology has rapidly evolved from GSM to CDMA and now 4G-5G smart-phones are available for enhanced performance and services. In India, mobile towers are being built in a haphazard manner without any prior planning and regulation. People in India nowadays have raised concerns about the adequacy of cell-phone safety standards and policies to protect their health. This led to apprehensions about possible safety consequences of mobile communication exposures or Electro-Magnetic Field (EMF) radiations. Hence a study was conducted to measure the radio frequency EMF radiations (power density) at various distances from the cell towers in Delhi-NCR to understand EM field behavior of mobile antennas and find the level of exposures. The results shows that the exposure levels are well below the prescribed limits of Indian standards of EMF exposures.
