Abstract

Bringin and River Banjir Kanal Barat (BKB) estuaries are mouth rivers located in west Semarang City. The Bringin river is part of Bringin cathment area, while BKB river is part of Garang Catchment Area. Both catchment areas are intensively functioning for agriculture, settlement and industry which later caused water pollution. This research aimed to evaluate pollution load and assimilation capacity of Bringin and BKB estuaries. Data collection were conducted by survey method with collection of water samples from 9 sampling point in different rain intensities. The result showed that waste water load for total suspended solids (TSS), nitrate, phosphate and metals (Ni, Cu and Hg) concentrations from both rivers exceeded assimilation capacity of each estuary. However, BKB estuary wastewater load was higher than Bringin Estuary. Thus, wastewater loading in Garang watershed should be more concerned than Bringin estuary.
