Tanawat Chaiphongpachara

Abstract

In this study, we aimed to update the checklist of mosquito species (Diptera: Culicidae) in Amphawa district, Samut Songkhram Province, Thailand. Black light traps were used for adult mosquito collection per study site during the rainy season between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM once a week in October and November 2018. A total of 746 mosquitoes belonging to 4 genera within 6 species were collected on both left and right sides of the Mae Klong River. The six species of mosquitoes caught were Anopheles epiroticus Linton and Harbach, Armigeressubalbatus Coquillet, Culexquinquefasciatus Say, Cx. sitiens Weidemann, Cx. gelidus Theobald and Mansoniaannulifera Theobald. This result revealed newly recorded mosquito vectors in this area, namely Ar. subalbatus and Ma. annulifera. Both species are important vectors of mosquito-borne diseases in Thailand, which is important in planning to find specific ways to target species in the area further.
