Abstract
The mean annual rainfall of Nanded district ranges from 900 to 1100 mm. The frequency of deficit years is higher in Hadgaon, Mukhed, Nanded as compared to Bhokar, Kandhar, Kinwat, Deglur and Biloli. The normal years are high in Biloli taluka that is (15 years), followed by Deglur, whereas the low years of normal rainfall were noticed in Nanded and Hadgaon taluka. On an average 19 week period was available for Nanded, Bhokar, Kandhar, Kinwat and Biloli and extended in Deglur and Mukhed, i.e. 20 weeks and shorten week in Hadgaon taluka. The probability of occurrence of 20 mm rainfall is greater than 50 per cent from MW 23 and persist up to MW 40. Kharif crops like Sorghum, Maize, Arhar, Cotton, Safflower, Sunflower, Sesamum, Blackgram, green gram, Soyabean, Cheakpea and Summer Groundnut should be predominately cultivated in this zone. During rabi, Safflower, Cheakpea, Wheat, Sorghum may be cultivated under residual soil moisture condition. Present cropping system of the field crops and fruit crops should be continued. In the talukas of Bhokar, Kinwat and Biloli cultivation of improved and high yielding varieties of rice is profitable
