STUDIES ON PHYTOCHEMICAL PROFILE AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY ON AYSTASIA GANGETICA L.

V. Mary Kensa

Abstract

The antimicrobial activity of leaves, stems and root extracts of Aystasia gangetica L. were evaluated using Soxhelt extraction method. Methanol, Acetone, Ethanol, Chloroform and distilled water was used as solvents in order to get the plant extract. The antimicrobial activity was screened by using disc diffusion against three different randomly selected bacteria and fungi. Methanol extracts demonstrated the highest activity (21 mm zone diameter of inhibition) followed by the acetone and ethanol (20mm zone diameter of inhibition and 19mm) while the water extracts (4mm) demonstrated the least activity.
