Abstract
Air pollution in general occurs through both anthropogenic and natural sources but in the recent scenario increasing population and growth of industries and urbanization also lead to increasing the pollution. In the present study an attempt is made to see the implications of air pollution and its effects on the environment of an industrially developed coastal city. The test case chosen here is Visakhapatnam city (17°42N; 82°18E) highly industrialized coastal metropolitan city on the East coast of India. This Indian Coastal city is suppose to be one of the rapidly cities in the world. In this paper we take the data of the major pollutants like SO2, No2, TSPM (Total suspended particulate matter) and RSPM (Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter) for the latest warming years of 2007-2010 at various locations in Visakhapatnam. The change of the above pollutants in relation to various Met parameters is studied. Also the effluent transport of the pollutants is studied under different terrain following factors. The inter relationship between an increased global warming and dispersion of atmospheric pollutants is discussed.
