Abstract

Industrial and domestic wastewater produces wastewater of complex nature which contains organics, suspended solids, oil, grease and heavy metals which are polluting water bodies to a great extent. Heavy metals are amongst one of the pollutants, which cause severe threats to humans and the environment and in some cases; soil, water and food are also polluted by heavy metals. Due to their easy accessibility for disposal of wastewaters, surface waters are most vulnerable to pollution. Rivers play a major role in assimilation or carrying off the municipal and industrial wastewater and run-off from agricultural land. In present study Gomti River at Lucknow was found to be affected by heavy metal pollution during the post-monsoon season in the entire period of investigation.
