EFFECT OF FOLIAR APPLICATION OF POTASSIUM NITRATE AND UREA ON PERFORMANCE OF TRANSPLANTED RICE

G. Mahajan, R.S. Sarlach and M.S. Gill

Abstract

The results demonstrated that in late transplanted rice, grain yield improved substantially with single foliar spray of urea (0.5% or 1%) at flowering stage. Grain yield can also be improved with single spray of 1% KNO3 at flowering stage. No yield advantages were found with two sprays of 1% KNO3 as compared to single spray of 1% KNO3. Similarly, no yield advantages as compared to control were found with KNO3 spray (2%) either single or double spray or with two sprays of urea (either 0.5 or 1%) possibly due to less translocation of assimilates toward grains that led to higher spikelet sterility.
