Abstract
Histopathological changes in gills due to acute and chronic exposure of freshwater bivalve,Parreysia favidens to copper sulphate were studied. Toxicity of copper caused alterations in the normal architecture of gill lamellae like respiratory epithelium swelling, increase in nuclear size, granular cytoplasm and its vacuolization , reduction of interlamellar spaces , destruction of cell wall, shrinkage of epithelial cells, necrosis of gill epithelium with pycnotic nuclei . Thus, copper toxicity caused histopathological changes in gills
