Abstract

Xanthornonas is a genus of phytopathogenic bacteria that attack a variety of hosts with economic importance including beans, citrus, rice, grape and cotton. Cluster bean is a drought tolerant legume, grown for vegetable and seed purpose. The crop is affected by bacterial blight by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Cyinnopsidis is a serious diseases in Karnataka. Survey was made in the major cluster bean growing distrids, during kharif- 2002 and 2003 to record the incidence of the bacterial blight disease in the field condition. During field survey infected leaf, stem, and sixty-four seed samples were collected and brought to the laboratory for the isolation of pathogen. Out of sixty-four seed samples, thirty-eight samples yielded th,. bacterial pathogen with an incidence of 01-90 per cent. On the basis of diseases symptoms, morphological cultural, biochemical characters and hypersensitive reaction. The isolated pathogen is confirmed o Xanthomonas axonolhodis pv. cy mopsidis.
