PRODUCTION OF CHITINASE BY SERRATIA MARCESCENS GG5 IN SOLID STATE FERMENTATION

Abstract

Serrotia morcescens GG5 produced chitinase so presmce of flake chitin. Under submerged conditions maximum enzyme activity (14 WM..) was observed in minimal medium Isaving 1.0% flake chitin, 1.0% wheat bran and 005% swollen chitin after 96 hr at 30 .C/150 rpm. In solid state fermentation maximum enzyme yield (571_1/m1) was observed after 120 hr in medium having flake chitin and wheat bran in ratio of 1:1 and substrate to moisture ratio of 1:3.
