Abstract
In the present work. the incidence of Aeronauts hydrophilu in river fish was investigated fora period of two years. Monthly samples were collected Ito sampling site of the A marayathy Rive, Tamil Nadu, India. Swab samples of body surface, gill and intestine were screened or Arrumon. hydrOila Among a total of 262 fishes screened. 134 151.1 %) were found In harbour A. hydrophila All the fishes examined in October 1998 and in December 1999 showed the presence of A. hydn?phola and the lowest incidence (21.4%) was recorded during December 1998. About five fish species svere analysed during the study period, and higher incidence of 58.3% was seen in Saratheredon onossonbicus. Among the three different body parts analysed, 47.7% of intestine, 39.5% of gill and 35.8% of body oorfo:onlf0ohc1cor00t A. hydrophith. The results of the present study mveakd that the freshly caught fishes were also containing A hydruphith and particular attention should be taken to eliminate this A. hyd031,1a re,hnv may become opportunishc pathogen.
