Abstract

The floristic diversity of a grassland community of Maharaja Purna Chandra Autonomous College, Takhatpur, Baripada (21º 93’ N; 86º 76' E), Mayurbhanj in the state of Odisha, India was thoroughly studied from July-2022 to July-2023. All the information related to floristic composition was collected throughout the research period and was analyzed. The plant community consists of 36 species, out of which, 18 species were grasses and 18 species were non-grasses. All the species come under 12 families. The family Poaceae share a maximum of 50% followed by Asteraceae and Cyperaceae (8.33% each). The family Malvaceae, Fabaceae and Rubiaceae share 5.55% each and the rest 6 families Amaranthaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Convolvulaceae, Violaceae, Mimosaceae and Phyllanthaceae share only 2.77% throughout the period of data collection and analysis. The experimental grassland community was found to be enriched with different grasses and non grasses might be due to topography, soil composition and climate of the locality.
