Abstract
Water has a main role in the lives of all living organisms. The present study is focused on the bacteriological analysis of the Neyyar River in Trivandrum district. Water samples are collected from five sites of the Neyyar River, during the period of March 2023 to December 2023, by using standard procedures. The bacteriological analysis was done by analysing the presence of bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Vibrio cholerae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Shigella dysentery, and Staphylococcus aureus. The findings of the bacteria are reported here. From the findings, the Neyyar River water is mostly polluted because of anthropogenic activities, which include the discharge of solid wastes such as domestic and municipal wastes, the excreta of humans and animals when mixed with water, pesticides and fertilizers and their excess use at the bank of the river. In this study, the Neyyar River water is unhealthy for drinking purposes, but it can be used for agriculture. This indicates the need for proper drainage and sanitation.
