Abstract

Auxotrophic mutants of Azospirillum were generated by treating the Azospirillurn sp. isolated from paddy field with UV, acridine orange and ethidium bromide. The mutants were tested for the production of auxin under Trp- and Trp+ condition and compared with wild strains. The results revealed that most mutants produced more auxin than the wild type. The study also indicated that, auxin production by mutants was independent of tryptophan.
