APPLICATION OF 3R AND LEAN PRACTICES IN CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS FOR A BETTER ENVIRONMENT

Agarwal Anil

Abstract

Construction is the second largest activity after agriculture. Building and infrastructure projects consume nearly 50-60% of the materials in their total cost. Various construction materials are from natural sources, such as soil, stones, wood, water, coal, etc. Many composite construction materials are formed and used in building construction from these basic materials. During the use of these materials in the construction process, wastage does take place to the tune of 10%. The waste or wastage of the building materials in the construction can be minimized by applying 3R (Reuse, Reduce and Recycle) and lean practices. Systematic study of the different construction processes and executing the improved versions save the building materials, helping in a sustainable environment.
