Abstract
An attempt has been made to isolate strains of .A.zospirillum from paddy roots grown in various localities situated around 50 km radius of the study site Poondi, Thanjavur district. The strains were studied with reference to morphological characters, effect of pH, utilization of carbon sources, biotin requirement, pigment production and IAA production. The studies revealed the existence of variation among the isolates of Azospirillum.
