Abstract
Environmental pollution has become a cause for great concern as it continues to increase rapidly, day by day. Significantly, the growth of industries has made its disproportional contribution towards the degradation of human, physiological as well as the biological environments. One such major toxic and hazardous pollutants, now a days all over the world is phenol. Number of researchers have made attempts for removal of phenol using various techniques which include biosorption, biodegradation, adsorption etc. In the present investigation, an attempt is made to adsorb phenol on soapnut shell carbon (Sapindus trifoliatus) using synthetic phenol effluents. The different physical parameters effecting the rate of adsorption were optimized and an adsorption efficiency of more than 85% was observed.
