ESTIMATION OF VELOCITY GRADIENT IN CURVE CHANNEL FLOCCULATORS

P.V. DURGE AND P.B. NAGARNAIK

Abstract

Flocculation plays an important role to remove colloidal impurities in small as well as large capacity water treatment plants. Many hydraulic flocculators presently in use are being developed with the concept of Tapered flocculation. Tapered flocculation is a concept in which change in velocity gradient takes p ace in flow direction. The use of such concept ensures good floc formation compared to conventional flocculation for given retention time and energy input. An experimental work was undertaken on 180`) channel bend to study variation of velocity gradient in channel bend flocculator and its relationship with other parameters of bend which can be used to design bend flocculators.
