INFLUENCE OF RH1ZOSPHERE-APPLIED PHYTOHOIZMONES ON MASS MULT1PLICAI ION OF AM INOCULUM

S.N.BHOWMIK AND C.S.SINGH

Abstract

The growth, infection levels and sporulation in mycorrhizal Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana Kunth) were compared after treatment with several pure 1.-)livtohorrnone preparations viz., IAA, GA3, kinetin (100pg L-1). These phytohormones were applied exogenously in the root zone of Rhodes grass at three different intervals (at sowing, once a week, twice a week). The pot culture experiment was carried out under polyhouse condition and observations were recorded at 45 days and 90 days of plant growth. Among the phytohormones, IAA considerably enhanced mycorrhizal colonization and sporulation, with the application once a week found to be economical.
