Abstract
Effect of oral administration of ethanolic extract of Asteracantha longifolia was investigated on blood glucose, serum insulin and liver glycogen levels in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The ethanolic extract at a dose of 300mg/kg body weight significantly lowered the blood glucose, increased the hepatic glycogen and serum insulin levels in the diabetic rats. These results indicate the hypoglycemic activity of Asteracantha longifolia.
