Abstract
Antimicrobial effect of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) on some pathogens such as (Enterobacter .fecaelis,Citrobacter frenndii and E.coli). Experiments for antimicrobial activity were carried out to determine the potential of using the powdered dried ground leaves of Cymbopogon citratus to control species of organisms (approx. 250mg, 500mg, 1g/2mL of distilled water). Different solvents used for the extraction of the plant were aqueous and ethanol showed inhibition on Enterobacter fecaelis, Citrobacter freundii and slight reduced inhibition on E. co/i. A minimum inhibition dose (MID) was measured as activity. The extract containing aromatic, 70-90% citral, geraniol, farnesol, citronella 1, myrcene, nerl and aldehydes had high inhibition.
