EFFECT OF UV IRRADIATION ON CELLULASE PRODUCTION BY A. FIIMIGATUS ISOLATED FROM AGRICULTURE WASTES

JOHRA KHAN AND MANAB DEKA

Abstract

The production of cellulases and 0-glucosidase from Aspergillus fumigatus was investigated in shake flask cultures. These species were isolated from different Agricultural wastes. The enzymatic sacchairfication of cellulase has been proposed as a means of producing glucose on an industrial scale. In UV irradiated species it was possible to increase the production of p-glucosidase up to 80 folds in 60 minutes, 73 fold increases in filter paper activity, 50 fold increases in Cl and 20 fold increases in CMCase activity. UV exposure was given for 30, 60 and 90 minutes. The effect of irradiation on cellulase production was examined in Mandel and Sternberg medium (1976) which revealed that the 60 minutes of UV irradiation can cause significant increase in the production of cellulase which in turn increase the production of glucose—a product of interest to industries.
