Abstract
The kinetics of oxidation of oxyhemoglobin by potassium ferricyanide has been investigated spectrophotometrically. The reaction has been shown to be second order with specific reaction rate of 2.36 x 1021VI1s-1 at pH 6.00 and temperature 25.0°C. The energy of activation, frequency factor and entropy of activation are found to be 21.42 kl Mo1e-1, 1.34 x 10' and -135.89 JK-'mol-' respectively. The specific reaction rate is influenced by hydrogen ion concentration (pH) and saline concentration. The most likely mechanism has been suggested.
