SEASONAL CHANGES IN MLA SOIL RESPIRATION AND SEEDLING RESPIRATION IN A DISTURBED QUERCUS FLRIBUNDA LINDL. FOREST OF CENTRAI HIMALAYA

Beena Joshi And Y. S. Rawat

Abstract

The rate of CO2 evolution was measured by an alkali absorption method *using 20m10.5 N Na OH) for soil and seedling of Quercus floribunda in a partially lopped forest. The site was located between 2025 - 2150 m altitude in Central Himalaya. The values of total soil respiration, aboveground and belowground seedling respiration were markedly higher during rainy season than during the other seasons. Regardless the season both soil respiration and seedling respiration were significantly greater in lighted microsite than shady microsite Root respiration values represented a significantly higher proportion of total soil respiration and total seedling respiration respiration In winter season than in the other seasons.
