DEPOSITION OF TRACE EIEMENTS IN THE SEDIMENTS OF BASAVESHWAR NAGAR POND AROUND GOKUL INDUSTRIAL AREA, NEAR HUBLI CITY, KARNATAKA, INDIA

M. B. Baligar and V.C. Chavadi

Abstract

The concentration of trace elements like Cd, Pb, Ni, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe and Cr in the sediments of Basaveshwar Nagar pond were studied and to estimeate the effects of dumping of industrial waste materials into the pond. The analyzed results of pond sediments showed 2 fold increased level of studied elements concentration in comparison with relatively non-polluted values. Further, the results of correlation co-efficient and t-test values indicating positive correlation in deposition and highly significant at 5% level of confidence. The higher concentrations of trace elements in the pond sediments are introduced due to the surrounding industrial activity.
