FRESH WATER BLUE GREEN ALGAE FROM PRAVARA RIVER, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

Abstract

The present survey was under taken along five stations of Pravara river. Blue green algae were collected and identified. The studies revealed that, 67 species belonging to 25 genera representing 6 families viz. Chroococcaceae, Oscillatoriaceae, Nostocaceae, Scytonemataceae, Rivulariaceae, Nos tochopsidaceae. Oscillatoria, Lyngbya, Nostoc, Anabaena, Scytonenia were found to be dominant in the collection. Nodularia spumigena Mertens ex Born. et Flail., Nostoc..hopsis hansgirgi Schmidle, Gloeotrichia ghosei Singh, R. N., Camptylonemopsis pulneyensis Desikachary, Scytonernatopsis kashyapi (Bharadw.) Geitler, Scytonema pascheri Bharadwaja, Scytonema tolypothrichoides Kutz. ex Born. et Flah., Anabaenopsis tanganyikae (West, G.S.) Woloz. et Miller, Lyngbya majuscula Harvey ex Gomont, Spirulina subsalsa Oerst. ex Gomont, Gornphosphaeria aponina var. delicatula Virieux, were reported. This is the first report from this region. The present investigation can enrich our knowledge of algal flora of the state.
