Somesh Yadav, Hitendra Kumar Singh and iVieenu Saxena

Abstract

The chromium was tested for its cytotoxic effects in form of aqueous solution of chromium sulphate on Alhurn sativum root tips. The solution showed mitodepressive effect, which increased as the concentration and the time of exposure were increased. The root tips of Alliuni sativum were treated with different concentrations like 100 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm and 10001)pm for 2, 4 and 6 hours that caused various mitotic irregularities such as disturbed metaphase, scattered metaphase, stickiness of chromosomes and condensation of chromosomes at metaphase. The extrusion of chromosome and polarity abolition were observed at anaphase. No aberration was studied in prophase and telophase.
