Abstract

The fresh water environment needs much attention as it forms the main source for drinking, irrigation, industrial uses etc. The occurrence of algae clearly indicate the water quality. In this work the distribution of algae in river Kaveri from Bhavani to Erode was carried out. The dominance of Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae and Bacillariophyceae clearly indicate the chemical character of the water and determine its quality. During the study period for about six months chlorophyceae were recorded as dominant form and it indicate not only the chemical character of the water, but also the Pollutional status of river Kaveri. The results are discussed in detail.
