Abstract

Stone quarrying is one of the primary and oldest small scale industries contributing significantly towards the economic growth of the country. But the major environmental concern of the industry is alarming, leading towards environmental degradation due to unplanned and unscientific quarrying activities. The study carried out in selected quarry locations in Kolar District revealed the impact of dust pollution on the growth response of various plant species growing in the near vicinity. In general the length, width, photosynthetic area and dry matter are found to be less in polluted sites except for few plant species which showed similar features both in polluted and unpolluted sites. The study revealed the impact of dust pollution on the growth behaviour of various plant species studied.
