Abstract
Growth of commonly occurring filamentous fungi in food grains may result in production of mycotoxins, which can cause a variety of ill effects in human beings. In the present investigation a variety of storage fungi of around 19 species were identified from seeds of paddy, black gram, green gram, green pea and ground nut. Species of Aspergillus, Penicillium and Fusarium were the predominant genera. Aflotoxins like B1, B C1 and G2 were recorded in considerable quantity in some pulses. Ochratoxin A, Zearalene, Citrinin and Penicillic acid were also detected in the samples examined.
