Abstract
Though the knowledge about the utility and continued extraction of non-timber forest product (NTFP) by the mankinds was known for a century or so, yet the study of scientific evaluation of such product exploitation and impact of continued ex-traction of such products in the forest strands were not surveyed in depth. In tropics, during the past few decades, the multi dimension utility of forest products were realised and thus enormous efforts have been made to quantify such products. In the present paper an attempt has been made to review the status of NTFP resource exploitation with reference to a forest range in West Bengal (India).
