Abstract
Ambient air quality monitored in the areas around the stone crushers and health survey of the people was conducted at Zirakpur near Chandigarh in the residential and commercial areas near the stone crushers and also in the background or Suspended particulate Matter (SPM) was respirable whereas in the background area it was only 25%. Health Survey indicated that the people living in the predominant wind direction were worst effected and suffer from respiration and skin diseases. The problem was more in the still weather with very less wind speed and low dispersion conditions.
