Abstract
The paper gives an account on fish diversity and their gut content analysis of common fishes inhabiting in the river Tunga. Twenty species of fishes belonging to 7 families were recorded in a stretch of 8 km. in the upper reaches of the River. Among these, the member of Cyprinidae consist of 12 species and the genus Puntius was the most predominant with 10 species. Excepting P. dubious, P. carnaticus and P. tor, all other forms of Cyprinida were herbivores. Forms belonging to Channidae, Bagridae, Scombresocidae, Siluridae and Cobitidae were carnivore, whi,le Notopterus kapirat (Notopteridae) was omnivore.
