Abstract
A critical survey on the culture and management of fin fish farms in West Godavari district, an area of hectic culture activity, was made. Fish culture in this district is at its peak, of course with some minor lapses in management. The yield in some farms managed on scientific lines, was quite significant touching a maximum of 10 tons per hectare per annum, whereas in some others it is as low as 3 tons. The details of the fish farms surveyed, their management and possible reasons for the variations in the yield are discussed.
