HYDROGEOLOGICA! STUDIES OF UPPER URMIL RIVER BASIN DISTRICT CHHATARPUR CENTRAL INDIA

Abstract

Upper Urmil river basin is bounded by latitude N 24° 49'1 0" to 25° I 0' and longitude E 79° 28'45" to 79° 45 covers an area of more than 453 sq. km. The major portion of the basin is hilly, rugged and rocky terrain. Bundelkhand granites, granitoids and granitic gneisses are important lithological units found in the basin. The present paper deals with geologic, geomorphic, visual interpretation of IRS satellite imagery, resistivity survey and hydrochemical studies reveal that the basin has sufficient storage of ground water for exploitation to augment the prevailing needs of irrigation as well as drinking purposes.
