Abstract
The influence of industrial effluents of Sugar factory at Aska, chloro-alkali factory at Ganjam in Ganjam District and the paper mill at Rayagada in Rayagada District on the degradation of photosynthetic pigment (chlorophyll) in intact paddy leaves has been determined. Concentrations of the effluents (v/v) ranging from 1.0 (v/v) to 20.0 (v/v) were applied to attached 4th, leaf of 30 days old rice (Oriyza satiya L.) plant incubated under continuous light, normal day light and continuous dark conditions. "Aska" effluent was found to be more effective at all concentrations tried in degrading the chlorophyll than the "Ganjam" effluent and the "Rayagada" effluent was the least effective. Similarly, the order of degradation of chlorophyll was found to be continous light < Normal light < continuous Dark < Control.
