Abstract
The present study deals with the effect of trophic nature of reservoirs on the reproductive capacity of a freshwater cat fish, Mystus bleekeri (Day). Three reservoirs are selected for this study, an oligotrophic reservoir Osmansagar, a mesotrophic reservoir Mir Alam reservoir and eutrophic reservoir Hussainsagar. The fish are collected from three reservoirs during its breeding season and estimated absolute and relative fecundities in each reservoir. The oligotrophic resevoir is treated as a control. The absolute and relative fecundities are declined significantly (P < 005) in eutrophic and are increased significantly (P> 0.05) in mesotrophic reservoir. This indicates that the trophic nature of reservoir plays a pivotal role on reproductive capacity of the fish.
