INFLUENCE OF INSITU INCORPORATION F ORGANIC WASTE ON CHEMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL UNDER RICE-WHEAT CROPPING SYSTEM

Sunita Gaind and R. S. Mathur

Abstract

A field experiment was performed for four consecutive years (1994-95 to 1997-98) to investigate the effect of crop residue management practices and Trichoderma reesei inoculation on some soil properties under rice-wheat cropping system. The incorporation of wheat/paddy straw + T reesei resulted in an enhanced carbon mineralization and dehydrogenase activity whereas improved humus level was recorded in soil amended with compost. The inoculation with Bacillus polymyxa (a phosphate solubilizer) improved the overall availability of soil phosphorus compared to control.
