GROUND WATER QUALITY FOR IRRIGATION ITS ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT IN DISTRACT MANSA, PUNJAB (INDIA)

Abstract

Ground water samples from running tubewells equally distributed all over the area, were collected and analysed for various chemical constituents for assessing their quality for irrigation. Based on EC and RSC values these waters have been classified into four categories viz. good, marginally saline, marginal-sodic and poorThe ground water quality map of the area was prepared which indicates that 36, 13,41 and I - per cent of total geographical area of the district is occupied by good, marginal-saline, marginal-sodic and poor quality categories, respectively.The management practices for the use of these waters for irrigation purposes have also been discussed.
