SORPTION STUDIES ON CADMIUM REMOVAL BY IPOOMEA LEAVES

R. K. Srivastava, Vandana Sehgal and Anoop Sen

Abstract

The removal of Cadmium from waste water by adsorption on Ipomea leaves was investigated to determine the effects of contact time, pH, quantity of adsorbent and temperature. The alkaline (pH 9) aqueous medium favoured the removal of Cadmium by lpomea leaves. Batch adsorption experiments conducted at 30°C, 50°C and 70°C, showed that adsorption of Ipomea leaves increases when temperature is increased from 300 to 50°C and then decreases when temperature increases from 50° to 700. Low adsorbent dose gave better results. The maximum removal of Cadmium by lpomea leaves was upto 98%.
