NUTRIENT DYNAMICS AND ENERGETICS OF A DOMINANT LOW LAND WEED

P.N. Dongre

Abstract

NPK and energy contents of different component parts of a dominant annual low land wood, viz. Ammonia baccifera L., were estimated at fortnightly intervals at two study sites, namely Site 1 and Site II, starting with the age of 15 days to an age of 1 50 days. The NPK content as well as energy content values exhibited an increasing trend in all the component parts and declined after reaching a peak at both the study sites. The highest values for both NPK and energy content were observed in case of reproductive parts, namely flowers including fruits, which were followed by those for leaf and stem with roots showing least values at both the study sites. The decreasing trend in mineral content and energy content of vegetative parts was found to be correlated with initiation of flowering. The value observed at Site-II were relatively higher as compared to Site-I because of existence of better growth conditions at Site-II.
