EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PHOSPHATIC FERTILIZERS AND P LEVELS ON THE AVAILABILITY #14 P AND MICRONUTRIENT CATIONS IN ACIDIC AND CALCAREOUS SOHS

Abstract

In a laboratory incubation study, the effects of different P levels applied to acidic and calcareous soils through diammonium phosphate (DAP) and single superphosphate (SSP) were studied on the availability of P and micronutrient cations. In acidic soil, DAP appeared to be a better source of P than SSP as it maintained higher level of Bray's P and also either maintained or slightly increased the level of DTPA extractable soil Cu. Use of SSP in acidic soil increased the content of DTPA extractable soil Zn, Fe and Mn in comparison to DAP however, higher doses of SSP decreased the content of DTPA extractable soil Fe. As regards the availability of P in calcareous soil, both SSP and DAP were equally good. The use of SSP in calcareous soil was found to increase the content of DTPA extractable soil Zn in comparison to DAP.
