DEVELOPMENT OF PENET FORMULATION OF SULPHUR OXIDISING BACTERIUM (GOB) FOR GROUNDNUT

R. Anandham and R. Sridar

Abstract

A total of 49 isolates of sulphur oxidising bacteria was isolated from seven locations of Tamil Nadu using Starkey's broth, thiosulphate broth and NCL broth. Isolates were screened based on their capacity to reduce the pH of growth media from 8.0 to 5.0 and less than 5.0. For developing pellet formulation, wet land clay soil (TNAU) was used. The pellets were made of I cm length which contained 25x 106 CFU (Colony Forming Units) of sulphur oxidising bacterium/gram. It was tested in gruondnut cv.,ALR 2 at different doses viz. 20, 40 and 60 kg/ha.
