Abstract
The impact of canalization and relationship of land use/cover change of Sanapat lake, a sub-basin of Loktak lake (one of the Ramsar sites of global importance) in Manipur of far northeastern India has been studied. Land modification due to canalization and subsequent marginal paddy cultivation has lead to decrease of open water area of the lake by 62% within a short span of 13 years.
