S.L. Swain and N. Behera School of Life Sciences

Abstract

Aim of present study was to estimate the biomass and net production of Tectona granuts in a regenerating teak forest from the western part of Orissa. The estimated value of total above ground biomass varied from 18.7 to 1115.4 t/ha. The proportion of the wood biotnass ranged from a minimum of 34% to a maximum of 74% of the total biomass the corresponding proportion of leaf biomass was 2 to 39%. The above ground net production showed a range of 13.5 to 30.5 t/ha/yr. Biomass accumulation ratio varied from 1.13 to 36.59. Maximum production efficiency was estimated to be 2.72. The study revealed the greater production potential of teak for the forest of the western part of Orissa.
