LEPIDOPTEROUS PESTS OF TEA IN INDIA : A REVIEW

A. Panigrahi

Abstract

Studies made on the lepidopterous pests of tea in India, are briefly reviewed. The review covers distribution, out-break, nature of damage, life-history, alternative host—plant, natural enemies and control (chemical, biological, host—plant resistance, cultural) of the serious pests of tea. Awareness of the tea—planters about the harmful effects of the pesticides on tea and environment is urgent and the biological control programme, especially use of disease pathogens of the insects, is considered best means to control these pests.
