Y. S. More and S. N. Nandan

Abstract

In India various workers have studied hydrobiological aspects of algae from different rivers but in Maharashtra State very few have paid attention on ecology of algae from rivers. It was thought worth to fulfil the lacuna in the study of hydrobiological aspects of algae of Panzara river of Khandesh area of Maharashtra. Algal and water samples were collected at monthly intervals from 3 stations of river during 2 years study. The most pollution tolerant genera and species of 4 groups of algal were recorded from 3 stations of river. Algal can be used as indicators of organic pollution for assessing the water quality of Panzara river.
